To better understand my emotional dispositions and the world at large, I spent many years experimenting with my mind and body often running in circles. Today, relaxed and at peace, I see and accept things exactly as they are. The Yoga path heals depression, anxiety, and addiction. The Yoga path is not compatible with suffering. As someone who used to wear the right costumes, have the right titles, and appear beautiful on the outside. People seldom knew how unhealthy I was becoming on the inside.
The journey to change is a topic I wrote about in the novel: Sex, Drugs, and Yoga. Which will be out soon! Today, as a Yoga Teacher and Creative Director at Pure Marc Organics, I am blessed to share two things that I am passionate about: Yoga and Organic Food. Yoga found me in 2007. As a student I delved into different Yoga Studios and began to explore a variety of different types of Yoga. In 2008 one studio posited a 30 day Yoga challenge; I kept going for 60 more. Around this time I started to take the occasional weekend or evening workshop and started to hang out with other Yogis. In February 2012, I took a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training under Shakti Mhi and Pepe Danza at Prana Yoga College in Vancouver, British Colombia then went on to take an atelier course on guided Meditation at the Association Ananda in Paris, France. As an eternal student, I look forward to taking future trainings and continuing to learn about Yoga.
On and off the matt, anyone on his or her own quest for happiness; regardless of where you are coming from or where you will go, will enjoy my take on healthy, inspired, and blissful living. Namaste!
Asami Martens
Asami’s relationship with Yoga started in 2006 at a Hot Yoga studio in Montreal, Canada. She first started Yoga to lose weight, but after regular practice she quickly realized her love for Yoga. Beyond just physical fitness, Yoga offered her calmness in her mind and a deep spiritual connection. Yoga changed her life! Influential to her Yoga career, and in fostering her curiosity of the many styles of yoga, are teachers Sara Gallagher (CAN), Bryan Kest (US), Peter Clifford (Aus) and Zoe Trenwith (Aus). Asami decided to take her Yoga journey forward and to attend a 200 hour Teacher Training in 2009 in Byron Bay Australia. She also completed her second teacher training in Bali in 2012 to deepen her teaching and practice.
Asami’s asana classes offer more than the physical fitness, but also a way of letting go everyday stress, and reconnecting with the body, mind and soul. Her classes also aim to bring an inner–‐smile and joy to each of her students with her passion and love towards Yoga. Asami believes sharing Yoga with others can bring peace to the world and the society. Asami was born and raised in Japan, lived in Montreal Canada for 6 years, lived in Sydney Australia for 3 years and lived in Singapore for 3 months. Asami loves to travel whenever she has time. Asami continues to study, practice and share Yoga around the world.
